George's Story Chapter 1 Part 2
6th March 2014, 01:39 PM
This story has been playing for the past two mornings. I’m convinced that the spectrum of light was an asteroid, or something similar. It was just going so fast that it appeared as a colourful streak of light across the sky. It could have a type of metal within its core, and so it messed with our magnetic field. Most asteroids are known to have iron content, so it seems plausible to me. I press the cold button to turn the loud thing off.
With my beady eyes, made for the internet, I leave my room and move quickly down the stairs. I flick the kettle on, and listen to it awaken a lot quicker than I am. Instant coffee jingles at the bottom of my green mug, chipped with age. I’m not much of a coffee person. I would have tea, but I prefer to take my time and really enjoy it.
I nearly burn a slice of wholemeal toast before adding three sugars to my coffee, no milk. Just as I’m about to sit down, the strong smell sizzles at my nostrils and I decide to add milk anyway. It's not often I get to try something new. I take a sip and shrug my shoulders.
Hmm.
Resting the mug on my desk, I pull a shirt over the top of my very hairy head, and then wear a tie around my neck. I leave to slap water onto my face, blinking at the cold, and realise I’ve forgotten my glasses and my laptop bag.
I put on my glasses and the room springs into clarity. My room is large, but the amount of space available is miniscule. Too many desks and shelves with hundreds of Gundam figurines, and stacks of books as thick as a bible.
