Ok I think I know the crime.

So what happened was,Gwin was buying puffle food.But he looked everywhere for his puffle.He saw his puffle on the roof of the Mine Shack.So he climbed up there but the puffle jumped down(which caused the knocked over barrel) and Gwin was stuck up there.But he fell and everything went from there.

I think you're close, but the fall couldn't have killed Gwin because of the other reports showing minor injuries far from the results of death. I do agree that Gwin's puffle ran up the scaffold and Gwin followed it. However, Gwin's viking hat is missing and it is not seen in the debris, so I believe that when Gwin fell, he fell on his viking helmet head first.
