I decided to post my answer for the crimezone on a discussion because when I commented on the disscusion that damen made It didnt show it and it wouldnt let me scroll down but heres my answer
I think I know what happened to him...

I think one of his friends killed him because his friends said that the viking hat was valuable so one of his friends asked for an autograph and buddy request to make it seem like he wasnt the criminal and to make it seem like he was really his friend and then his friend took him to the mine shack and either chocked him to death or hangged him because if his friend hangged him he probably told him to go up on top of the mine shack and his friend followed behind him and then grabbed him and pushed him onto the hook

and then he took his body and dragged it onto the snow and layed him face down in the snow and broke off some of the wood and placed it all on the ground to make it look like he fell even though his friend really killed him because it said that The "Forensics have not spotted any broken bones, or organ damage. and it also said that "Someone" so that someone had to be his friend. I'm not sure if this is right but i think this could of happened to him.

I also have a second answer... I think that his friend went on top of the mine shack with him and pushed him making him fall but when he fell he didnt die because the snow was soft and then when Gwin tried to get up his friend ran over and started pushing his head down in the snow sufforcating him so that could of been a reason why he was laying faced down in the snow and then once he died he took the wood and put it all over the place to make it look like he fell and then he ran off with the hat.

I think that he suffocated. He probably was pushed down the hill by his friends for thinking he was vain because he always talked about the viking helmet. His head got stuck in the snow... He lost oxygen.... he finally got out and and had little air and fainted right there on the snow. He could not breath so he suffocated. His puffle was then thrown into the trees by his friends so it would get hurt and not sniff out it's owner (Gwin) and alert the police. (By making noises of distress or something.)
