When I'm preparing for an attack, I simply log off OldCP and don't go back on until it gets announced that the attack has occured.

I was involved into a war once, it was scary but all you need to do is to believe yourself and stay positive and try not to get killed. There's no need to be scared in a in-game war which doesn't exist in reality.
